01

What is a chronograph?

A chronograph is a watch with a built-in stopwatch operated by pushers, usually above and below the crown, with sub-dials that count elapsed seconds, minutes, and hours.

02

Start / stop / reset

  1. 1Press the top pusher to start timing.
  2. 2Press the top pusher again to stop.
  3. 3Press the bottom pusher to reset all chronograph hands to zero.

Do not operate the pushers underwater unless the watch is specifically designed for it.

03

How to reset the chronograph hand

If the central chronograph hand doesn't return exactly to zero after a reset, many watches have a correction mode — consult the manual, or have it adjusted by a professional.

04

When to seek professional service

If pushers feel mushy, the hands don't reset cleanly, or the chronograph runs intermittently, visit a watch professional rather than forcing the buttons.
